It wasn’t until we were well into the life cycle of the PS4 Pro that we started getting locked and higher frame rates that made games look and run better. Some games, however, were able to be locked at 60 FPS, but those games were few and far between. At best, you would get games that ran anywhere from up to 30 FPS to games running at speeds of up to 60 FPS. Last-gen games (on the PS4) ran at different frame rates depending on how the developer wished to use the console’s power. For the most part, achieving this speed means sacrifices elsewhere, like the game’s resolution, because there’s only so much processing power. Insomniac announced yesterday that Ratchet and Clank will be getting a PS5 over-the-air update making the game playable at 60 FPS in April! For those who don’t know, 60 frames per second is the frame rate at which most, if not all, developers like to hit with their games, but it’s not always possible to do so because of the limitations of the hardware. There’s more good news, but just for PS5 players. After March 31st, Ratchet and his robot companion will scurry back into the PS Plus Collection, and your only option will be to buy the game on either platform or subscribe to PS Plus on PS5.īut that’s not all.
But the game has been strategically extracted from the collection for a limited time and offered up as a free cross-gen game to PS4 and PS5 owners.
These are two very different things despite their names being so close to one another.īefore this stand-alone free offering, Ratchet and Clank (2016) was bundled in, along with 19 other top tier, genre-defining games, creating the PS Plus Collection a free collection that was made available to PS5 owners that have PS Plus (PlayStation’s monthly subscription that offers unique perks and free games every month). I want to make this very clear for people because there is much confusion about PS Plus and the PS Plus Collection. Only PS5 owners (with a PS Plus subscription) have this exclusive access. So, to be clear about who doesn’t have access to the free game after the March 31st deadline: PS4 owners who have PS Plus do not have access to the PS Plus Collection.
This will grant you access to the PS Plus Collection, which includes Ratchet and Clank. No PS Plus required! However, after the deadline, the only path to get this game for free will be to own a PS5 and have a PS Plus subscription. It’s your last chance to get this PlayStation exclusive for free!
